About the role

Technical Writer position supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) documentation in a fast-changing, mission-critical environment. Focus on creating accurate, current, and findable procedures, collaborating with engineers, and ensuring deliverables pass federal review.

Responsibilities

  • Turn technical knowledge from network, cloud, security, and field deployment engineers into usable documentation.
  • Carry program deliverables through federal review.
  • Ensure documents stay current in a changing system environment.
  • Identify which documents are actually used and which are trusted by engineers during incidents.
  • Reduce duplication by creating findable, authoritative procedures.
  • Prepare documents to arrive complete and on schedule for contract review.
  • Establish and maintain templates and standards so quality does not depend on individual writers.

Qualifications

  • Active CBP Background Investigation (CBP BI) and EOD strongly preferred (start possible without).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Experience documenting technical systems you were not an expert in.
  • Federal program experience and handling of controlled information.
  • Experience building durable documentation standards.
  • Ability to influence busy engineers to contribute to documentation without formal authority.
  • Fluency in Markdown, Confluence, SharePoint, and standard document toolchains.
  • Portfolio of usable documents preferred.
