About the role
Mechanical Design Engineer focusing on data center mechanical infrastructure, including cooling systems, HVAC, and critical equipment. Role is in the build phase, requires on-site presence at data centers, and involves evaluating complex systems, establishing engineering standards, and ensuring performance and scalability for hyperscale AI infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering evaluations for data center opportunities.
- Assess cooling infrastructure, HVAC systems, and critical mechanical equipment.
- Evaluate air-cooled, liquid-cooled, and hybrid cooling solutions for AI and hyperscale environments.
- Provide mechanical feasibility recommendations and Go/No-Go project input.
- Conduct technical due diligence on existing and new data center facilities.
- Review cooling capacity, chiller plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, and liquid cooling readiness.
- Evaluate equipment availability, vendor capabilities, lead times, and deployment risks.
- Support cooling topology, mechanical design strategy, and equipment selection decisions.
- Validate mechanical design assumptions, capacity requirements, and construction readiness
- Partner with engineering teams, vendors, and consultants to ensure scalable, reliable data center solutions.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center or AI infrastructure development.
- Experience with BMS controls integration and mechanical systems commissioning.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar professional certification.
- Experience evaluating colocation or build-to-suit mechanical infrastructure in a due diligence capacity.
- Able to operate in ambiguity and build technical evaluation processes; independently assess complex mechanical infrastructure while defining future evaluation methods.
- 8+ years of experience in data center mechanical engineering, MEP design, or mission-critical mechanical systems.
- Experience with cooling topology design, liquid cooling systems, chiller plants, and CRAH/CRAC systems for high-density AI/hyperscale environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical capacity planning, equipment selection, and capex trade-offs in data center design.
- Experience evaluating mechanical feasibility of sites prior to commercial commitment.
- Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
