About the role

Mechanical Engineer at Impulse responsible for cradle-to-grave design, analysis, build, test and integration of flight hardware for next-generation propulsion space vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, build, test, and document innovative structures; example systems include primary structure weldments, tank internal fluid/structural devices, payload attachment fittings, and stage propulsion/avionics integration hardware
  • Steer system definition, layout, requirements, and verification
  • Support first article build through ramp to production in collaboration with manufacturing, incorporating DFM and reliability improvements
  • Support development and qualification test campaigns with test plans to demonstrate flightworthiness
  • Establish driving load cases and environments with loads/dynamics and thermal teams
  • Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, and GNC to create an integrated system

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience designing and analyzing structural aerospace hardware
  • Strong knowledge of strength and stability hand calculations for structural sizing and model validation
  • Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, material failure modes, and analysis methods
  • Familiarity with machining, welding, forming, and joining processes
  • Proficiency with CAD software and assembly management
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across teams
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges and rationale effectively
