About the role

Senior Data Engineer role within Apple Store Online's Retail Business Intelligence team. Focus on data strategy, end-to-end data engineering for capital projects, and delivering accurate, actionable analytics to measure performance and drive decisions across Apple Store Online initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary data SME across a portfolio of capital projects, ensuring data strategy is established early and maintained throughout the project lifecycle
  • Partner with project managers, business stakeholders, and IT teams to translate initiative goals into clear data requirements and measurable success criteria
  • Design and build reporting layers and certified datasets that capture end-to-end performance of business initiatives — from launch through steady-state operation
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses and data investigations to surface insights, validate outcomes, and support executive decision-making
  • Lead requirements gathering, gap reviews, data validation, and UAT across projects
  • Provide consultation and training to business partners on how to interpret and leverage data assets tied to their initiatives
  • Lead regular design and code reviews and perform debugging and coding to resolve issues
  • Own the end-to-end data engineering lifecycle for analytics in retail initiatives - from requirements gathering and data modeling through pipeline development, UAT, and production deployment
  • Design and maintain scalable, certified data assets across relational and data lake environments, establishing semantic layer standards
  • Serve as a technical SME on multi-functional projects, translating complex business questions into data solutions
  • Lead design and code reviews, define engineering best practices, and mentor the team
  • Drive data quality and integrity by developing validation frameworks across source systems
  • Champion data literacy by delivering consultation, training, and documentation to enable self-sufficient use of datasets

Qualifications

  • Expert SQL skills with 7+ years of ETL and query optimization experience
  • Extensive Semantic Layer (ESL) development experience in relational database and data lake environments
  • Extensive experience performing data validation against complex, disparate systems
  • Proficiency in PHP and/or Python for scripting or data manipulation, with experience creating/modifying HTML/CSS/JS-based applications or front-end tools, and deploying into cloud environments (Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, AWS, or equivalent)
  • Professional proficiency in both Mandarin and English, written and verbal
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree in a relevant field with 7+ years of experience directly related to role requirements
