About the role

Staff Software Engineer at Curri to lead architectural direction, partner across multiple teams, mentor engineers, and contribute hands-on coding while emphasizing scalable, reliable systems and AI-assisted delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and guide the design of scalable, long-lasting systems, partnering with multiple teams to ensure new work fits into a coherent technical strategy.
  • Lead architecture reviews and design discussions across several projects, providing technical judgment beyond a single team or project.
  • Unblock other engineers by tackling complex problems, debugging, and removing obstacles even on projects you are not leading.
  • Stay hands-on by shipping production code regularly, using AI tooling (Claude Code, Cursor, Claude for design and code review).
  • Mentor engineers at all levels and amplify the impact of the team through coaching and leadership.
  • Identify systemic risks and technical debt and drive cross-team investments to fix them.
  • Partner with engineering leadership, PMs, and other senior staff to translate business priorities into technical roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience building production software, with ownership of architecture and technical direction beyond a single team or project.
  • Experience leading system design for scalable, reliable production infrastructure.
  • Full-stack depth: backend (TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, NATS) and/or UI (React, React Native).
  • Fluency with AI-paired delivery (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) and ability to coach others on using AI effectively.
  • Demonstrated mentorship track record.
  • Strong, direct communication and ability to explain architectural tradeoffs to engineers, PMs, and leadership.
  • Comfort operating with influence rather than authority.
