About the role

Senior role building platform layer for Apple’s cloud services. Design, develop, and maintain API, libraries, and distributed systems that other iCloud teams depend on. Partner with cross-team groups, manage end-to-end project execution, and drive production readiness and scalability of highly concurrent services.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support the services, frameworks, and APIs that iCloud service teams build against
  • Define and version the interfaces other teams depend on, and own the migration path when they change
  • Partner with teams across iCloud to understand their systems and deliver what they need from the platform
  • Drive end-to-end project execution, from design reviews and through production releases
  • Deploy, scale, and maintain highly concurrent and throughput-intensive services
  • Triage, investigate, and remediate production and operational issues

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of industry experience designing, implementing, and operating highly scalable distributed systems
  • Deep working experience with programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Go
  • Expertise in programming in concurrent and multi-threaded environments
  • Experience building platform software that other engineering teams depend on, including API design, versioning, and migration
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field or equivalent related experience
  • Strong background in functional programming with Scala, OCaml, or a typed functional style in any language
  • Strong background in event streaming, e.g., Kafka
  • Experience with KV data stores, e.g., Cassandra, FoundationDB, or DynamoDB
  • Experience using AWS, GCP, and cloud-native technologies (Containers, Kubernetes, gRPC)
  • Experience building the documentation, samples, and self-service onboarding that make a platform easy to adopt
