Wireless Module Engineer
About the role
The Wireless Module Engineer (WME) leads wireless module development from architecture through mass production, coordinating RF design, packaging, product engineering, ATE, and reliability across internal teams and OSATs. Responsibilities include early RF architecture, design release, ATE maturity, failure analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver tested modules for product NPI builds and production.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical liaison between internal cross-functional teams and OSATs to ensure alignment on architecture, specifications, deliverables, and milestones.
- Oversee the maturity of ATE HW/SW at OSAT and drive the RF module to MP with yields meeting Apple quality requirements.
- Communicate component risks to the executive team and integrate OSAT schedules and risk mitigation into the project.
- Drive formal module design release processes, including checkpoints for schematics, PCB layout, RF simulation results, DFM, test data readiness, and OSAT feedback.
- Manage module integration and ATE test coverage at OSATs; oversee ATE maturity preparation for hardware and software (load boards, daughter cards, sockets, handlers) and calibrations.
- Collaborate with reliability, manufacturing test, supply chain, and product design teams to define test coverage (Open-Short, VCO calibration, TX/RX calibration, RF packet test, EVM, RX sensitivity).
- Lead failure analysis with OSATs post-NPI and implement improvement activities (ATE tooling, test time optimization, yield and retest improvements).
- Travel to international OSATs for Module & ATE bring up (1-2 weeks) before product NPI builds and debug bring-up issues during travel (e.g., I2C & PCIe).
- Provide risk communication and drive meetings to decision on wireless technologies and module development approaches.
- Support multiple product lines within Hardware Technology with disciplined execution from concept through ramp.
Qualifications
- BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
- Strong RF fundamentals
- Proven track record for effective written/verbal communication and leading projects with self-motivation
- 2 or more years of wireless module development experience from concept to MP for consumer electronics
- Strong RF design background; experience in packaging, product engineering, ATE, and reliability engineering is highly desirable
- Strong data analysis skills including yield (Cpk) and retest rate analysis for data sheet closures
- Ability to work at both high-level theory and hands-on execution
- Experience managing vendor teams and leading cross-time-zone meetings
- AI/ML experience with data analysis is a plus
- Very good communication skills (verbal and written) to drive meetings and decisions
- Ability to define best engineering methods for custom wireless module development during prototyping
- Experience setting up project schedules and work breakdown structures with risk prioritization
- Proficiency in reviewing mechanical/electrical designs for sockets, fixtures, and test systems
- Ability to travel internationally
