About the role

Senior/tech lead backend engineer responsible for leading the mk8s Core team (API, core control plane, autoscaling, platform integrations, and Kubernetes add-ons) within Nebius Managed Kubernetes, while remaining hands-on as an IC and transitioning to managerial responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example: write/review code, lead projects, participate in on-call rotation, incident mitigation, and post-incident analysis
  • Manage 4–8 mid-to-senior engineers: provide context, coach, and give regular feedback
  • Maintain the technical vision for your area of responsibility
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager and Service Owner to shape product vision and plans
  • Deliver outcomes such as optimizing the service control plane to manage 20K GPU nodes in a single Kubernetes cluster, integrating cluster autoscaling approaches (e.g., Karpenter), enabling a Kubernetes-native local disk usage solution to reduce I/O bottlenecks, and delivering managed Layer 7 load balancers

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering or management experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Golang, or quick switch to Golang
  • Experience with multi-month technical projects
  • Experience leading engineers and owning multi-month technical projects
