About the role

Engineering Manager to lead the Billing team at Supabase, owning monetization and revenue systems including plans, subscriptions, usage-based billing, invoicing, payments, credits, taxes, dunning, pricing, entitlements, marketplace and partner billing, with integrations to Stripe and Orb. Roles include people, delivery, and technical leadership in a remote, globally distributed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build a healthy, high-trust team culture in a remote-first, globally distributed environment.
  • Run 1:1s, performance management, career development, and onboarding for direct reports.
  • Coach engineers across backend application code, data pipelines, external integrations, and operational workflows.
  • Build durable ownership so critical billing knowledge and incident response do not depend on one person.
  • Handle people administration, including leave and time off for the team.
  • Own the hiring plan for the Billing team and act as Hiring Manager and first-round interviewer for roles on the team.
  • Source, interview, and close strong candidates with Talent Acquisition.
  • Contribute to headcount planning, org design, and evolution of engineering leadership.
  • Own the Billing roadmap and project management in Linear, driving milestones and delivery.
  • Balance new pricing/product capabilities with system correctness, resilience, and debt reduction.
  • Manage workflow intake and Slack triage for prioritization.
  • Provide weekly updates to keep stakeholders aligned.
  • Surface risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and revenue/customer-impact concerns early to leadership.
  • Train as an Incident Commander and lead coordination, resolution, and post-incident follow-ups.
  • Lead blameless post-incident reviews.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering background with credibility building complex systems.
  • 3+ years managing remote engineering teams.
  • Experience managing a billing engineering team at a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools company (preferred: billing/domain depth).
  • Experience leading remote, globally distributed teams in asynchronous work environments.
  • Strong people management passion and track record in performance management.
  • Ability to build psychological safety and feedback culture.
  • Ability to multiply by helping individuals achieve more together rather than being the single technical voice.
  • Coaching over directing, removing blockers, and empowering engineers to own how work is done.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to build structure where needed.
  • Clear written communication and proactive risk surfacing.
  • Collaborative, low-ego, adaptable working with senior ICs.
