Security Engineer
About the role
Security Engineer at Saturn, a YC-backed fintech, responsible for the security of systems handling sensitive client data and regulated financial workflows across applications, cloud infrastructure, and engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Application and API security across Saturn’s web applications, backend services and integrations, including authentication, authorisation, session management and firm-level data separation
- AWS security, covering IAM, network controls, secrets, encryption and workload isolation
- Threat modelling and security review for new systems, financial workflows, external integrations and AI capabilities, joining projects early enough to change their design
- Vulnerability management end to end: discovery, prioritisation by real risk, remediation and verification across code, dependencies, cloud resources and employee systems
- Security tooling and automation, including checks built into CI/CD, so the same work is never done manually twice
- Detection and incident response, from logging and alerting through investigation and recovery, turning each incident into a lasting improvement to systems and controls
- AI security, including prompt injection, unsafe tool execution, retrieved data and sensitive information disclosure
- Evidence and assurance for SOC 2, enterprise security reviews and customer due diligence, plus reusable security patterns engineering teams adopt as standard
Qualifications
- Security engineering experience. 3+ years in security engineering, software engineering, infrastructure security or a closely related role, with a track record of improving the security of production software or cloud infrastructure
- Application and API security depth. Strong command of common web and API vulnerabilities including the OWASP Top 10, and practical knowledge of authentication, authorisation, sessions, secrets and encryption
- Cloud security. Hands-on experience securing AWS or another major cloud platform, including IAM, network security and cloud-native controls
- Secure design. Experience running threat modelling and architecture reviews with proportionate controls that fit the system and its stage
- You build, not just advise. Ability to write software and automation in Go, TypeScript, Python or similar, and to integrate security checks into engineering workflows
- Detection and response. Knowledge of security logging, monitoring and incident investigation, with comfort owning a problem through to remediation and verification
- Risk judgement at startup pace. Ability to prioritise meaningful security work under uncertainty
- Strong written communication. Ability to describe risks and mitigations clearly for engineers, customers and leadership

About Saturn
Compliance and back office workflows for Wealth Managers.
At Saturn, our mission is to make financial peace of mind more accessible by building the best operating system for wealth managers. Wealth and Asset Management is one of the world’s highest revenue-generating industries, yet it remains painfully inefficient. The sector relies heavily on disjointed legacy systems, manual human tasks, and a complex web of intermediaries, all of which increase costs. Saturn is an AI-powered operating system for wealth management built to automate investment research, streamline operations, and ensure compliance. Saturn creates the best version of truth, empowering investment advisors to work more efficiently, navigate complex regulatory landscapes, and deliver personalised, high-value services to their clients. Today, Saturn supports over 200 firms globally that manage more than £35bn in assets under management (AUM) and over 200,000 clients. As the industry grows, it faces massive operational challenges like bad tech, advisor retirements, regulatory pressure, an increased cost base, and transformational opportunities like great intergenerational wealth transfer and changing consumer needs. Saturn aims to be at the forefront of this transformation, driving the future of wealth management.
