Senior Software Engineer for the Code Scanning Engine Quality team at GitHub, focusing on CodeQL-powered analysis, production operations, and internal tooling to improve the quality and security of software across production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Join the Code Scanning Engine Quality team (Production Operations and Development Platforms).
  • Deliver CodeQL-powered analysis across production environments (GitHub.com and GHES).
  • Own published artifacts and deployed services; provide production operations and incident response.
  • Build and operate internal tooling and platforms (CI pipelines for CodeQL, offline evaluation tools) to validate changes at scale and reduce release risk.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, designers, and technical writers to influence product direction and deliver features with focus on quality, reliability, and user experience.
  • Engage with internal and external users (enterprise and open-source) to help them succeed with the product.
  • Influence organizational culture and processes, seeking continuous improvements.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with production software coding experience in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python; or equivalent combinations of degrees and experience.
  • 3+ years experience in software security, DevOps, CI solutions, orchestration/automation (e.g., Temporal.io), software supply chain security, or related areas; OR experience building developer tools for lifecycle automation (CI pipelines, release automation, offline evaluation tools, CLI tools, or IDE extensions); OR ML/AI applied to source code and LLM-based code reasoning.
