About the role

Engineer to develop and operate Apple's cloud-based PostgreSQL service, contributing to PostgreSQL internals and collaborating with AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) to support enterprise workloads across Apple services. Role focuses on database systems, storage, high availability, performance, and coordination with SRE and Database Engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to major components of PostgreSQL (query execution, storage, replication, high-availability, scaling, administration, feature development)
  • Develop and operate a cloud relational database service hosting PostgreSQL databases at massive scale
  • Work on modern database technologies, distributed systems, and storage engineering
  • Engage with internal customers and collaborate with Database Engineering and SRE teams
  • Mentor junior engineers and communicate effectively with globally distributed colleagues

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or related field with 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • High proficiency in C, C++, Rust
  • Advanced understanding of data structures and algorithms in storage and indexing, coding in C, C++
  • Experience developing database systems, storage engines, distributed systems
  • Experience developing software in open source communities
  • Knowledge of relational databases internals (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
  • MS in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Expertise with code performance and optimization
  • Expertise with Relational database systems architecture
  • Knowledge of Linux Kernel development
