About the role

Performance Control Software Engineer role within Apple’s Platform Architecture to measure, analyze, and control the relationship between power and performance across Apple silicon. Responsibilities include designing experiments, creating instrumentation and data visualizations, prototyping in-kernel performance control algorithms, and productizing software that governs performance for hundreds of millions of devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments to characterize execution efficiency and effects of physical constraints (temperature, current limits).
  • Use empirical methodology to illuminate power–performance tradeoffs.
  • Collaborate with and influence a broad cross-functional audience across processor architecture, silicon engineering, system integration, OS development and application software performance evaluation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve measurement and control capabilities of Apple SoCs.
  • Invent new performance control concepts and carry them through prototyping, production implementation and tuning.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar engineering degree.
  • Experience with operating system design and implementation.
  • System level or low level software development experience in C or C++.
