About the role

Metrology System Design Lead responsible for architecting, specifying, and delivering calibration and test systems for one or more technologies from prototyping to mass production. Leads cross-functional teams, defines validation criteria, documents plans, and communicates progress to executives and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the architecture, design, and implementation of calibration and test systems for one or more technologies, from early prototypes to mass production
  • Specify instrumentation and diagnostics for validating product performance
  • Specify and implement process control and data collection
  • Demonstrate dynamic and flexible adaptability to switch between different projects across various technologies
  • Calibration & Test Development
  • Lead members of our organization in developing instruments, algorithms, fixtures, infrastructure, diagnostic software, and scalable processes to validate and test technologies throughout the development supply chain across Apple and key business partners
  • Collaborate closely with development teams during early stages of technology development to define validation criteria for functionalities and performance
  • Document metrology development and execution project plans
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Program Management
  • Serve as the primary contact for metrology system engineering requirements, scalable validation, and processes for core technologies
  • Interact with internal groups at Apple to ensure metrology solutions are executed and engineering specifications are met on time
  • Communicate the progress of metrology solutions and their readiness to executives, upper management, and technical staff
  • Navigate a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment, making sound decisions with ambiguous information

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; 10+ years of work experience in metrology, instrumentation, or a related field
  • Excellent understanding of hardware/firmware architecture and the interoperability of complex systems
  • Prior experience with one or more of the following technologies: camera, depth sensing, and EE (e.g., SoC, image sensor, power, signal integrity, battery)
  • Experience with technologies involved in mobile devices. Ability to collect, analyze, and present data to senior management
  • Prior technical leadership and/or project management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver executive-level presentations
  • Dynamic, collaborative, and "can-do" attitude with a passion for working with talented cross-functional teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20%, typically in 7-10 day trips
