About the role

Apple University’s Creative Director will strategize, shape, re-shape, and ship the team’s creative work across learning experiences, marketing and websites, and experiments to drive reach and impact. The role partners with AU faculty, producers, writers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver world-class creative that advances Apple’s culture and values.

Responsibilities

  • Brand and Design System: Maintain and evolve the visual and narrative identity for Apple University’s formats (live courses, interactive experiences, videos, podcasts, web content, print collateral, digital tools)
  • Establish creative standards, a design system, engineering specs, and/or templates for visual and typographic consistency across AU offerings
  • Concept Development and Storytelling: Conceive and create story-driven learning experiences with subject-matter experts
  • Distill complex concepts into simple models, diagrams, and narrative arcs
  • Creative Direction and Hands-on Design: Provide direction and critique from framing to final polish
  • Lead actively as a player-coach, designing alongside the team
  • Establish design workflows and rhythms balancing exploration with timely delivery
  • Team and People Leadership: Lead a multidisciplinary design team and support their growth
  • Source and direct external creative partners (e.g., UX designers, audio engineers)
  • Strategic Collaboration and Influence: Partner with AU senior leadership to shape curriculum roadmap
  • Champion creative work across Apple and build cross-functional alignment
  • Creative Innovation and Emerging Formats: Explore evolving formats and media to expand AU’s reach
  • Experiment with novel learning formats and platforms, including generative AI integration into creative workflows
  • Lead integration of generative AI into creative workflows while preserving craft and human touch

Qualifications

  • 15+ years in brand identity, communication design, or editorial art direction across print, digital, motion, and experiential environments
  • Exceptional portfolio in creative presentation design, web design, UI/UX, or related visual communication with Apple-aligned aesthetics
  • Solid understanding of web development and UI/UX principles for learning platforms
  • Proven track record directing, mentoring, and guiding cross-disciplinary teams
  • Deep familiarity with Apple native tools (especially Keynote) plus industry-standard tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Excellent time and project management; ability to triage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years in a design or creative leadership role
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and presentation skills
  • Collaborative and mentoring mindset; thrives in group environments
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and aligning diverse experts toward shared goals
  • Experience designing content that helps people learn, think differently, or change behavior
  • Appreciation for Apple’s values and design legacy; ability to steward and communicate what makes Apple, Apple
  • Commitment to inclusive and accessible design
  • Active curiosity and practical experience with integrating generative AI tools into the creative process
  • BA or BFA in Graphic Design or related design discipline, or equivalent professional experience
