About the role

SRE role within Apple's Identity Management Services to design, build, operate and automate large-scale platform services with a focus on authentication, provisioning, and security. Drive reliability, observability, incident response, automation, and security/compliance across cloud and on-prem infrastructure at Apple’s scale.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Platform Reliability & SRE Standards: Define and implement SLIs, SLOs, SLAs for ultra-high availability and performance of authentication, authorization, and provisioning services.
  • Architect & Engineer Resilient Systems: Design, build, and manage distributed systems across cloud and on-prem infrastructure; develop capacity planning, disaster recovery, auto-failover, and data consistency mechanisms; create reusable tooling and automation frameworks for observability, alerting, chaos testing, auto-scaling, and failover strategies.
  • Lead Operational Excellence & Incident Management: Advanced observability, ML-based anomaly detection, GenAI exploration for alert engineering; lead major incidents; conduct post-mortems and preventive architectural controls.
  • Champion Automation & Resilience Engineering: Build large-scale automation, internal tooling, CI/CD integration, canary releases, chaos engineering; reduce toil; support multi-cloud strategy.
  • Ensure Security & Compliance: Maintain security posture, implement fraud prevention at the perimeter, ensure compliance with standards (ISO-27001, PCI); ensure audit readiness.
  • Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, production support, and QA; promote DevOps culture; provide insights via log analysis and debugging.
  • System Lifecycle Management: Manage configuration and code deployment in UAT and production environments.
  • Investigate device-related issues by debugging relevant logs and supporting end-to-end platform reliability.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering with a focus on building, scaling and operating large-scale distributed platform services
  • BS in computer science or equivalent with 7+ years experience or MS in computer science or equivalent with 5+ years experience
  • Strong technical grasp and experience with Open Source technologies for large-scale data processing
  • Experience designing, analyzing and troubleshooting distributed systems
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Java, Go, Bash, Ansible or similar)
  • Experience designing observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, ELK, etc.)
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Observability & SRE Principles: Monitoring/logging tools and understanding of SRE concepts (SLA/SLO/SLI)
  • CI/CD & Automation: Experience with CI/CD, Release Engineering, DevOps, Git, Infrastructure as Code (Helm, CRD)
  • Programming & Data Systems: Strong coding skills (Java, Python, Go) and experience with relational/noSQL/OLAP databases and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Reliability & Operations: On-call, incident/problem management, ownership mindset
  • Security & Compliance: Understanding of security standards, cryptography, authentication (OAuth, SAML, SSO)
  • Innovation & Collaboration: Passion for reliable design, automation, and ML/GenAI for ops is a plus
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
