About the role

Senior Software Engineer role building and operating backend services and APIs for a financial transaction platform that uses AI agents to interpret business intent, validate and enrich transactions, route approvals, and reconcile financial data. Focus on correctness, production readiness, and cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Controllership, and Accounts Payable.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate backend services across the transaction lifecycle — ingestion, validation, enrichment, matching, approval routing, position tracking, settlement, and reconciliation.
  • Build the tool and function APIs that AI agents act through: clean contracts, structured inputs and outputs, idempotent operations, and safe failure behavior when an agent gets something wrong.
  • Implement agent workflows in production — graph-based orchestration, context assembly and retrieval, memory, structured output validation — and the evaluation harnesses that keep them honest as models and prompts change.
  • Build the operator-facing surfaces that make agent work reviewable: exception queues, match and approval review, audit trails, and the APIs behind them.
  • Model and evolve the platform's data layer — canonical transaction documents, event streams, sub-ledger balances — with the schema discipline and migration care that financial data demands.
  • Write the business, matching, and accounting logic as versioned configuration rather than hard-coded branches, so finance teams can change behavior without a deploy.
  • Own correctness in your services: immutable event history, exactly-once settlement, duplicate detection, reconciliation, and the audit lineage SOX controls depend on.
  • Own your services in production — instrumentation, alerting, on-call, and the performance and cost characteristics of what you build.
  • Raise the bar around you: thorough code and design review, tests that catch real defects, clear technical writing, and mentorship of engineers earlier in their careers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.
  • 8 years experience developing software in a professional capacity.
  • 6 years experience with Java, including mastery in concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization techniques.
  • 8 years working with OOP principles, data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns (e.g. GoF).
  • 6 years experience building production applications with the Spring ecosystem (e.g. Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data, Spring Cloud).
  • 6 years experience designing, implementing, and shipping high-scale, high-performance, highly available, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-based distributed systems.
  • 6 years experience in API design and implementation (REST, gRPC, GraphQL, OpenAPI/Swagger, Protobuf); API versioning, gateway patterns, rate limiting, backward compatibility.
  • 6 years experience using relational and NoSQL databases (Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB).
  • 6 years experience with Natural Language Processing and Generative AI systems (LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, fine-tuning, prompts).
  • Track record of leading software projects across multiple teams as a tech lead, mentoring engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Codex).
  • Experience with message-driven architectures and systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ), event sourcing, CQRS.
  • Experience with caching/in-memory data technologies (Redis, Memcached, Hazelcast, Ehcache).
  • Experience with search and indexing technologies (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr).
  • Experience with distributed data orchestration & computing systems (Airflow, Spark, Flink).
  • Experience with contract testing and API test automation for microservices (Pact, Spring Cloud Contract, REST Assured, Postman).
