About the role

Lead Medical Writer responsible for delivering high-quality, scientifically accurate oncology-focused medical communications content across congress activities, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and plain language summaries. Leads multiple accounts, mentors writers, and ensures editorial excellence from planning to final review, with opportunities for career progression and client interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a lead writer and client contact for assigned accounts
  • Develop content, working closely with the project team to ensure quality editorial implementation of all assigned-client programs
  • Effectively and proactively communicate with editorial, client, vendor and project teams to ensure projects are completed on time and budget
  • Briefing, reviewing, guidance and direction to less experienced writers in account team
  • Provide high‑quality scientific oversight for assigned large/complex projects or a workstream
  • Drive project delivery and champion processes both internal and external (including compliance)
  • Provide business development support, investigate, conceptualise, and strategize new medical communications projects and publications to support the assigned-clients needs and opportunities
  • Represent Avalere Health at client meetings, advisory boards, speaker-training meetings, business development initiatives

Qualifications

  • Degree in the life sciences; PharmD or PhD advantageous
  • Ideally 3 years+ experience in medical or scientific writing within a healthcare consultancy or medical communications agency
  • Proven experience in the development of scientific content across a varied range of therapeutic areas, Oncology expertise is advantageous but not essential
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of scientific content types, including publications, and review content for accuracy and flow
  • Proven experience in project ownership and problem-solving, with the ability to work proactively in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong client communication skills and the ability to serve as a reliable point of contact for clients and external experts
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to junior writers
  • Experience managing client relationships and serving as a key point of contact
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory guidelines for medical communications
