About the role

Research internship focused on efficiency of frontier models (LLMs, diffusion models) within Apple’s ML research organization. Involves identifying opportunities, literature review, developing novel approaches, implementing prototypes, running large-scale experiments, and preparing a publication-ready paper.

Responsibilities

  • Identify promising research opportunities in frontier model efficiency (LLM inference/training, on-device models, speculative decoding, contextual sparsity, quantization and compression).
  • Review state-of-the-art literature and design novel approaches.
  • Implement code prototypes of proposed methods.
  • Plan and run large-scale experiments across multi-node, multi-GPU systems.
  • Write and submit scientific papers based on results.

Qualifications

  • Working towards a doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, data science, applied mathematics, or equivalent.
  • 6 months dedication preferred, starting no later than March 2026.
  • Proven research expertise in machine learning.
  • Publication record in relevant conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, COLM, etc).
  • Solid software engineering skills in complex, multi-language systems. Fluency in Python.
