About the role

Senior Network Engineer to join Apple’s Global Network Services team, leading and executing large-scale backbone projects (multi-site rollouts, data centre builds, peering and transit expansion), with hands-on engineering, project management, and automation to support Apple’s Global Backbone and Internet peering infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute large-scale network projects from planning through deployment and handover (multi-site rollouts, data centre builds, peering and transit expansion)
  • Work across carrier-grade platforms from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, and Arista
  • Implement and maintain protocols including BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, and IPsec
  • Support LAN/WAN and DWDM optical transport technologies
  • Apply traffic engineering and Internet routing policy knowledge to peering and transit networks
  • Build custom applications and automation tooling to streamline network provisioning, configuration, and deployment (primarily in Python)
  • Use and integrate orchestration tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, and version control with Git
  • Troubleshoot complex, large-scale network issues under pressure
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to peers
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to ensure a high-quality customer experience
  • Occasional early morning or late night calls as needed

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, including 3+ years in a project engineering or lead role on large-scale network deployments
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • In-depth, hands-on expertise across TCP/IP (v4 and v6), BGP, MPLS, and IS-IS
  • Practical knowledge of LAN/WAN and DWDM optical transport
  • Proficiency in macOS, Linux, or other UNIX-based systems
  • Strong programming skills, particularly Python, with experience building network automation tools
  • Experience with orchestration platforms and version control
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience building applications or tools for network automation (e.g., Netmiko, NAPALM, Scrapli, REST APIs)
  • Experience with automation/orchestration platforms (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins) and Git
  • BS or equivalent education (preferred)
  • Advanced industry network certifications (preferred)
