About the role

Software Engineer role in Apple Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) focusing on Java-based backend systems, cloud-native distributed applications, and collaboration across teams to design, implement, test, and maintain software that supports Apple’s operations and services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, document, improve, and maintain code mostly in Java (and other languages as needed).
  • Participate in all stages of projects—from planning to design to implementation and iterations.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Project & Product Managers, Product Designers, and internal & external partners.
  • Work on systems and apps related to various Apple domains (e.g., apple.com, Apple Stores software, Apple Care, identity, operations, people management, data centers, data processing & AI/ML).

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.
  • 2+ years of proven professional software development experience.
  • 1+ years of experience implementing cloud-based distributed systems, including familiarity with API implementations (REST, RPC, GraphQL).
  • 1+ years of experience with relational (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB) databases.
  • 1+ years of experience with Java.
  • Familiarity with OOP principles, data structures, algorithms, and GoF design patterns, focused on testable, maintainable, and extensible backend code.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools for building, testing, deploying, and releasing containerized apps on cloud-based Kubernetes (e.g., AWS EKS, GCP GKE, Azure AKS).
  • Familiarity with Java web frameworks (e.g., ServiceTalk, Spring, Dropwizard, Quarkus, Micronaut) and unit testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).
  • Familiarity with tooling languages (Go, Python, Ruby) and distributed orchestration & computing systems (Airflow, Spark, Flink).
  • Basic understanding of JVM internals (garbage collection, memory allocation, JIT, JNI).
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts & protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, CDN, edge computing, load balancing, OSI model).
