About the role

Lead responsible for creating tools to evaluate and mitigate safety risks across ground, maritime, and flight test operations for crewed and uncrewed platforms, and to serve as the impartial authority on accepting operational safety risk for all projects.

Responsibilities

  • Set company safety requirements
  • Work with vertical leaders to ensure SOPs support safety requirements
  • Assist in evaluating risks for each project
  • Serve as an impartial arbitrator of risk and take direct safety authority when risk exceeds Medium
  • Stay informed of regulatory guidance and industry best practices on operational safety
  • Disseminate new information and ensure policies remain compliant
  • Provide input to operators, test engineers, and aircrew via safety stand-downs and recurrent safety training
  • Collaborate with testing organizations on Test Risk Analyses Worksheets (TRW)
  • Lead Test Risk Management through coordination with Test Engineers and participation in test plan reviews, test operations, briefings, and readiness reviews
  • Contribute to development/amendments of operations and test documentation (operational manuals, SOPs, local procedures)
  • Lead periodic reviews of operational safety plans and ensure mitigation procedures are practical and used
  • Procure and provide necessary safety training to operators and evaluators of safety risk

Qualifications

  • 7 + years industry experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Graduate of a certified test pilot school or at least 10 years of testing experience including leading test teams
  • Maintenance, experimental, developmental, or production test experience
  • Experience handling ordinance
