About the role

Environment Test Engineer responsible for design, execution, and analysis of environmental stress test campaigns for drone subsystems and Ground Support Equipment (GSE); focuses on mechanical, thermal, and environmental qualification to validate survivability and performance under real-world stress across multiple hardware domains.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and executing vibration test campaigns (sine sweep, random vibration, shock) on drone sub-systems and GSE hardware to simulate transport, operational, and launch-induced environments
  • Executing controlled thermal exposure tests across the full operational temperature range on assigned sub-systems
  • Conducting dust and water ingress tests on drone enclosures, connectors, and GSE hardware to validate field survivability
  • Running humidity-controlled and salt-spray campaigns to identify corrosion risks in connectors and joints
  • Validating component behaviour under simulated altitude-related low-pressure conditions
  • Conducting high-cycle mechanical campaigns to characterize material and joint fatigue over operational life
  • Deliberately mapping the failure envelope by pushing hardware beyond design limits to validate safety margins

Qualifications

  • Environmental Standards Literacy: working knowledge of applicable environmental test campaign standards
  • Instrumentation & DAQ: expert in physical instrumentation (strain gauges, accelerometers, thermocouples, pressure transducers, load cells) and DAQ configuration
  • Mechanical Systems Understanding: structural mechanics, material fatigue, vibration dynamics, shock response for metallic and composite structures
  • Thermal Testing: experience with thermal chambers, thermal cycling rigs, IR cameras, thermocouple mapping
  • Environmental Test Equipment Operation: hands-on experience with vibration tables, shock rigs, thermal chambers, IP spray equipment, salt-spray cabinets
  • Metrology: precision measurement tools for pre- and post-test validation
  • Basic Familiarity with Weapons Hardware Constraints: understanding regulatory constraints for defense-related environmental testing; ITAR/EAR awareness
