About the role
Contractor scientist responsible for developing, optimizing, and validating cell-based and biochemical assays for high-throughput screening on Recursion's platform, with data analysis, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to Recursion's mission by developing, optimizing, and validating cell-based and biochemical assays for deployment on automated high-throughput screening platforms.
- Execute assay workflows at scale and monitor performance against defined quality metrics, flagging deviations early.
- Analyze experimental data to validate processes, troubleshoot systems, and drive improvement; share findings with a cross-disciplinary team to refine approach.
- Document methods, results, and protocols to enable transfer and reliable execution by others.
- Work in a matrixed environment where insights are valued and ideas are encouraged.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.Sc. in Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related field with 3+ years of relevant industry or equivalent laboratory experience.
- Hands-on experience developing and optimizing cell-based or biochemical assays, including mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
- Working knowledge of core molecular and cell biology techniques (transfection, nucleic acid and protein handling, plate-based readouts).
- Experience with automated, computer-controlled laboratory instrumentation (liquid handlers, plate readers, imagers) in 384- and 1536-well formats.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with general direction; quick learner of new techniques/instrumentation.
- Careful, consistent documentation of protocols and results in an electronic lab notebook or equivalent.
- Passion for fast-paced assay development in early-stage drug discovery.
