About the role

Technical lead for silicon debug and embedded systems support on AMD Adaptive SoC and AI Edge devices, spanning from early design-in to production, with strong emphasis on debug across hardware and software boundaries and ownership of embedded Linux releases and customer-facing documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Own escalated customer support issues from pre-production bring-up through production support. Reproduce failures, isolate to a block or layer, and drive fixes with design, IP, firmware, software or validation teams. Debug at register level over JTAG, by boot stage, and against timing reports.
  • System Level Integration across processing subsystems, Network-on-Chip, memory controllers (DDR5/6, LPDDR5/6), boot and storage (OSPI, UFS, SD/eMMC), and programmable logic. Integrate and configure subsystems in Vivado and Vitis; generate device images, hardware handoff (XSA) and system device tree.
  • Author customer documentation set (product guides, user guides, datasheets, tutorials) and respond to technical escalations.
  • Performance analysis and tuning to isolate bottlenecks across hardware/software boundary; explain expected cause/effect and verify results by measurement.
  • Embedded System Development: Build/customize embedded Linux images with Yocto-based flow (BSPs, device trees, kernel/rootfs tuning), generate and debug boot images, and write low-level software for on-chip processors.
  • Design Validation: Develop RTL (SystemVerilog/Verilog) and prove it on hardware; build tests, automation, and results analysis; debug customer designs.
  • Apply AI to Engineering Workflows: Use AI/LLM/ML tools to surface design gaps, summarize large test/log datasets, and drive productivity in debug, automation, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • - Extensive hands-on experience with FPGA/SoC platforms in silicon debug, applications, validation, or systems engineering across multiple device generations.
  • - Working knowledge of end-to-end SoC architecture: processing subsystems, on-chip interconnect, memory controllers (DDR5/6, LPDDR5/6), boot and storage blocks (OSPI, UFS, SD/eMMC), and programmable logic.
  • - Excellent technical writing with a track record of authoring customer-facing documentation (product guides, user guides, datasheets, tutorials).
  • - Proven functional failure debugging on real hardware: reproduce intermittent/system-level failures and drive to root cause using register-level JTAG (xsdb or equivalent), serial console, ILA, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.
  • - Solid RTL fundamentals in SystemVerilog/Verilog and/or VHDL; AMD/Xilinx FPGA experience preferred with Vivado or equivalent toolchain.
  • - Hands-on experience with embedded Linux flows: building/customizing images with Yocto-based flow (PetaLinux or Embedded Design Flow), Linux kernel/driver knowledge, C/C++, Python, Tcl and Shell; OpenEmbedded/Buildroot/AOSP experience considered.
  • - Working knowledge of clocking, CDC, timing closure and static timing analysis; ability to debug timing violations.
  • - Experience in performance analysis/tuning on real hardware or boot/configuration flows on FPGA/SoC platforms; boot image generation and runtime reconfiguration of programmable logic.
  • - Demonstrated use of AI in engineering workflows to identify design gaps, summarize data, and drive productivity.
  • - Track record of direct customer support and cross-functional collaboration across design, software, validation and field teams.
