About the role

Embedded CPU Architect focused on performance and power-efficiency optimization for Apple’s embedded CPUs across product lines. Involves modeling, RTL collaboration, workload analysis, and data-driven performance correlation to balance performance, power, and area.

Responsibilities

  • Define CPUs designed for embedded applications across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other Apple products
  • Identify bottlenecks and opportunities across varied embedded use cases
  • Model and evaluate architectural ideas with micro-architecture and RTL teams
  • Correlate RTL with CPU performance simulators to ensure design targets
  • Collaborate with the CPU architecture and performance team to maintain simulation and correlation environments and enable data-driven decisions

Qualifications

  • BS degree
  • 20+ years of relevant industry experience
  • MS or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience in CPU and SOC architecture and micro-architecture
  • Experience with performance simulation environments
  • Object-oriented programming skills in C/C++
  • Experience in a scripting language such as Perl or Python
  • Expertise in CPU microarchitecture (branch prediction, prefetching, pipeline optimization, datapath, memory hierarchy)
  • Understanding of power-performance trade-offs in CPU designs, system-level power management, and low-power design techniques
  • Understanding of common data structures and algorithms
  • Familiarity with SIMD, vector, or accelerator architectures
  • Comfortable in uncertain environments and able to navigate ambiguities
  • Experience in a research-driven environment
