About the role

The OS Performance team focuses on making Apple devices run smoothly and quickly by collaborating with software teams, evangelizing best practices, and building analysis tools. The role involves engaging with engineering teams to understand problem domains, develop features with performance in mind, and contribute to performance measurement and optimization, requiring a moderate amount of coding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with other engineering teams to gain a deep understanding of problem domains and develop performance-focused features.
  • Help teams measure and understand their performance and optimize their existing software.
  • Build tools needed for analysis to support performance work.
  • Code to support performance analysis and tooling (moderate coding experience).

Qualifications

  • At least one object oriented language and at least one scripting language such as Python or Ruby
  • Enjoys debugging or analysis work
  • Experience writing native apps for (or debugging) iOS, macOS or watchOS preferred
  • BS/MS in CS/CE or equivalent
  • Experience with Xcode Instruments suite
  • Skills for understanding large system architectures
  • Interested in several areas of software (operating systems, graphics, UI Applications, ML, compilers, etc)
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Enjoys working in a team environment
  • Competent and has delivered software written in Swift/SwiftUI/Objective-C
