About the role

iOS and backend software engineer role on the Apple Invites team to build high-quality iOS applications and scalable backend services powering iCloud features, with a focus on privacy, security, performance, and user experience at Apple scale. Role involves contributing to iOS app features and backend services, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leveraging GenAI tools in alignment with Apple guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features for the Apple Invites iOS application.
  • Collaborate with designers and cross-functional partners to implement user interfaces and experiences that align with Apple's design principles.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit as well as Java, Go, or C++.
  • Work with data persistence and synchronization using CloudKit and SwiftData.
  • Help ensure the performance, quality , and responsiveness of the application.
  • Identify and fix bugs, and address performance bottlenecks with guidance as needed.
  • Contribute to code quality through unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Continuously grow your technical skills and apply learnings to new problems and features.
  • Effectively use generative AI coding assistants in your development workflow.
  • Incorporate GenAI into day-to-day workflows beyond coding, in accordance with Apple's responsible AI guidelines.
  • Design, build, and maintain the backend services and APIs that power Apple Invites features.
  • Strong depth in one area (iOS or backend) with working familiarity in the other.
  • Engage in iOS Skillsets and Backend Skillsets as outlined (see qualifications).

Qualifications

  • iOS Skillsets: Professional experience developing iOS mobile applications with Swift and SwiftUI.
  • iOS Skillsets: Working knowledge of the iOS SDK and frameworks including SwiftUI and UIKit.
  • iOS Skillsets: Familiarity with data persistence and synchronization using CloudKit and SwiftData or similar.
  • iOS Skillsets: Effective communicator; unit testing experience; testable, reliable, maintainable code; receptive to code reviews.
  • iOS Skillsets: Self-motivated, dependable, passionate about the products; strong problem solving and debugging skills.
  • iOS Skillsets: Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT or equivalent).
  • Backend Skillsets: Experience building backend services/microservices in Java, Go, or C++ (or strong familiarity if iOS is primary).
  • Backend Skillsets: REST APIs and/or gRPC inter-service communication.
  • Backend Skillsets: Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL data stores; unit and end-to-end testing; readable, maintainable code.
  • Backend Skillsets: strong problem-solving and debugging; open to code-review feedback.
  • Additional iOS/Backend Skills: CoreData (ideally with CloudKit); experience targeting Apple hardware beyond iPhone; RESTful API integration; exposure to TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Python, Go, Rust, C/C++ or equivalents; familiarity with iOS extensions and integrations; experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP); containers/Kubernetes; caching (Redis, Memcached); asynchronous messaging (Kafka, Pub/Sub, SQS/SNS); CI/CD (GitLab, YAML, shell scripting); distributed data-processing (e.g., Apache Spark); Java frameworks for distributed services (Spring, Netty).
  • Domain knowledge: event management or calendar applications.
