About the role
Senior Reliability Engineer to build observability, tooling, and AI-enabled automation to improve system reliability and handle peak load, with a focus on onboarding AI-assisted investigation and cross-team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Own reliability for Tier 1 customer journeys: Define and instrument SLOs, golden signals, and business-level monitors for the journeys that matter most (checkout, telehealth visits, prescription fulfillment).
- Engineer for peak load and failure: Lead capacity and resilience work for high-stakes events and steady-state growth; implement load-test design, bottleneck investigations, and hardening across caching, GraphQL, VPC, and vendor rate limits.
- Build incident response as software: Mature FireHydrant, Datadog, and Jira into a connected pipeline with automated incident and RCA ticket creation, SLO burn-rate alerts, and post-mortem action tracking; maintain runbooks and severity standards.
- Automate operational excellence with AI: Build and operate AI-powered agents and tooling to reduce manual OE work (RCA drafting, stale item detection, runbook gap detection).
- Be the deep-debugging expert and elevate team debugging capabilities: handle cross-boundary issues, create runbooks and tooling, and collaborate with Security and product teams on anomaly detection and response.
- Maintain tooling for Operational Excellence reviews: Produce tooling that powers bi-weekly OE reviews and monthly cross-engineering OER, driving action items to closure.
- Raise the bar for others: Document, onboard, and coach engineers on SLOs, blameless post-mortems, and on-call practices.
Qualifications
- 5+ years as a Software, SRE, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineer with reliability ownership experience.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals; capable of reading application code across the stack.
- Hands-on depth in observability and SLO engineering (Datadog preferred; Prometheus/Grafana and OpenTelemetry welcome).
- Production experience with AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform, and PostgreSQL (RDS/Aurora).
- Experience running or maturing incident management end-to-end (on-call design, escalation policies, incident command, blameless post-mortems, action-item follow-through).
- Daily use of AI coding/analysis tools (Claude, Cursor, or similar) for investigation, coding, documentation, and reporting; sound judgment on outputs.
- Effective written and spoken communication to explain risk and post-incident learnings to engineers and leadership.
