About the role

Staff Software Engineer and Tech Lead for NetBox Delivery within NetBox Labs' Applications group. Responsible for technical direction, hands-on development, SaaS and DevOps/Kubernetes work, and cross-team collaboration to install, run, and improve NetBox in Cloud and Enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build software that installs, upgrades, and runs NetBox (e.g., Kubernetes operators, controllers, internal APIs, release tooling)
  • Contribute to NetBox and core plugins to improve production reliability and performance from startup to Postgres queries
  • Build observability, and set standards for testing, documentation, and SLOs
  • Own the technical direction and architecture for NetBox on Cloud and Enterprise as primary technical decision maker
  • Lead and mentor engineers including SRE through design and code reviews
  • Collaborate with NetBox Core and Cloud/Enterprise/Foundation teams to define release contracts and drive cross-team RFCs
  • Act as technical escalation point during incidents and ensure postmortem follow-through

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software development experience, with technical ownership of a production system or platform
  • Strong Python skills and production SaaS experience; Django and Postgres preferred
  • Experience building software on top of Kubernetes (operators, controllers, deployment tooling) with understanding of reconciliation loops and Kubernetes API
  • Experience building observability into applications (error reporting, distributed tracing, metrics, structured logging) with OpenTelemetry and Sentry
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes and Helm, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD or FluxCD, Terraform, Prometheus and Grafana
  • Experience leading engineering work without formal manager authority, including mentoring
  • Hands-on experience building inside an AI-augmented development harness (e.g., Claude Code) and reliable agentic tooling workflows
  • Track record of making technical decisions under ambiguity and driving cross-team migrations via RFCs
