About the role

Role to build a brand-new data platform for a client in the legal services sector, from architecture to hands-on implementation and ongoing support. Requires deep technical execution, architectural ownership, and ability to present and defend technical decisions to client leadership within a lean, AI-native delivery team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build a scalable lakehouse data platform from the ground up, covering raw data ingestion to downstream consumption layers.
  • Define the end-to-end data lifecycle architecture to support analytics, machine learning, and BI use cases.
  • Build production-grade data pipelines, frameworks, and platform services by writing and reviewing code.
  • Lead data cleaning, transformation, and entity resolution over large volumes of unstructured legal/historical records.
  • Provision, manage, and scale cloud infrastructure as code for repeatable deployments.
  • Act as the primary technical reference for the platform, setting engineering best practices and architectural guardrails.
  • Mentor engineering team members on data engineering practices and platform standards.
  • Partner with client leadership and stakeholders to translate requirements and defend architectural decisions; collaborate with AI architecture and product ownership in a lean team.

Qualifications

  • Extensive, hands-on experience designing and building enterprise-grade data platforms from scratch, serving as architect and individual contributor.
  • Deep expertise in Databricks and lakehouse architecture design.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, OpenTofu, or AWS CDK).
  • Strong data engineering fundamentals: data modeling, distributed computing, ETL/ELT design patterns, and entity resolution.
  • Ability to structure data platforms to support data science, ML, and BI needs.
  • Core background in data engineering and pipeline/platform development (not solely analytics or reporting).
  • Advanced English proficiency (written and spoken) for technical/strategic communication with US-based leadership.
  • Strong communication skills to propose, present, and defend technical solutions to client stakeholders.
