About the role

Senior Data Architect at CI&T, Brazil, focusing on data governance, metadata management, and data lineage for a finance/asset management client. Leads technical governance initiatives, designs data lineage/catalog, defines governance as code, mentors data engineers, and collaborates with data, DevOps, and platform teams to enable AI-enabled data ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Define data lineage and technology component architecture, including object and column-level granularity, coverage, and completion criteria.
  • Design catalog and metadata architecture using OpenMetadata.
  • Establish taxonomy and classification of data assets by domain, layer, and criticality.
  • Define Governance as Code model with DevOps and platform teams, integrating catalog/lineage updates into deployment pipelines.
  • Guide technical data quality rules and initial business glossary/metadonnées.
  • Assess and apply governance maturity frameworks, identifying current stage and target by dimension.
  • Set standards for using AI agents and language models in code analysis and metadata generation, respecting client policies on proprietary code.
  • Anticipate technical challenges (cross-domain tables, multiple writers) and propose architectural solutions.
  • Conduct validations with data owners (human gate) to ensure squad deliverables quality.
  • Contribute to governance roadmap continuity, including semantic layer architecture.
  • Ensure compliance with client security and data access policies.
  • Mentor and develop data engineers within the squad, promoting technical excellence.
  • Represent data architecture in client technical/governance forums and maintain strong relationships with data/platform leadership.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience as a data architect with governance, metadata management, and lineage.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, practical experience with PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
  • Experience with AWS (RDS, EC2 and related services).
  • Deep knowledge of Apache Airflow and data pipeline orchestration architectures.
  • Experience with data catalog/lineage tools such as OpenMetadata, DataHub, Collibra or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs or AI agents applied to code analysis, automation, and metadata generation (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, Bedrock, LiteLLM, MCP).
  • Knowledge of data modeling and governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), with track record leading squads and mentoring data engineers.
  • Advanced English (B2 or higher) with strong business-facing communication skills; ability to translate complex concepts for business stakeholders.
