About the role

CAD-focused role supporting additive manufacturing at Apple. Responsible for end-to-end CAD file lifecycle, creating and modifying CAD models and 2D drawings for additive manufactured components, evaluating part printability, designing support structures, and ensuring secure file transfer and version control using Siemens NX and Teamcenter. Acts as central hub for 3D printing design files and aligns designs with manufacturing, product design, and external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end CAD file lifecycle for additive manufacturing operations.
  • Interpret engineering requests from product design teams and generate accurate, robust CAD files from scratch or modify existing concepts to meet project requirements.
  • Create CAD models and 2D drawings for additive manufactured components.
  • Rigourously review part printability and develop support structures to ensure successful physical realization of digital models and improve print yields.
  • Manage file sharing and ensure alignment of new CAD designs with stakeholders across manufacturing, product design, and vendor bases.
  • Serve as central hub for all 3D printing design files, using Siemens NX and Teamcenter to securely download, review, and upload CAD models with strict version control and seamless transfer.
  • Maintain and resolve issues related to file integrity and CAD geometry; coordinate with overseas counterparts and internal teams to push process capability and mitigate risk.
  • Present detailed analyses to key decision-makers to enable commercial and design decisions.
  • Maintain knowledge of additive manufacturing equipment capabilities and stay abreast of 3D printing developments to enable improved design capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Strong grasp of CAD software, specifically Siemens NX, with expertise in reviewing, creating, and modifying mechanical components, complex assemblies, and 2D drawings.
  • Deep understanding of additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies, including the ability to evaluate part printability and develop robust support structures.
  • Proficiency in secure file transferring methods and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), specifically Teamcenter to manage file sharing and align CAD designs with cross-functional stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Ability to accurately translate concepts and requests from real product design engineers into robust, manufacturable CAD files.
  • Ability to reconcile DFAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) feedback with design goals, anticipate printability challenges, and provide actionable feedback to a larger team of manufacturing and product engineers.
  • Fluent spoken and written English; ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently on demanding, concurrent projects.
  • Experience with metal 3D printing and metal additive manufacturing processes (e.g., DMLS, SLM, Binder Jetting).
  • Experience working in fast-paced product development or mass production environments.
