About the role

Staff/ senior research engineer role focused on post-training methods for personalization of LLMs, spanning large language models, multimodal reasoning, personalization, and agentic systems within Apple’s Intelligent System Experience team. Develop novel algorithms for post-training, prompt optimization, and efficiency/memory techniques to deliver personalized user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Drive research in post-training methodologies to enable models to better understand individual user needs and personal context.
  • Develop and translate emerging research into scalable, high-quality personalized experiences at the intersection of LLMs, multimodal reasoning, and agentic systems.
  • Prototype and incorporate bleeding-edge algorithmic innovations with system engineers in the context of emerging agentic experiences.
  • Interface with large-scale modeling & data infrastructure to enable practical deployment of research outcomes.
  • Partner with system engineers to prototype and integrate new algorithms for post-training, prompt optimization, memory, and context management.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or related field (math, physics, computer engineering) with focus on computer vision and/or machine learning, or comparable professional experience.
  • Strong ML and Generative Modeling fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience in pre-training or post-training of large language models, and reinforcement learning.
  • Familiarity with distributed training.
  • Proficiency with ML toolkits (e.g., PyTorch).
  • Proven research contributions via publications at top-tier venues or open-source algorithm contributions.
  • Experience with building & deploying Multimodal-LLMs.
  • Experience building and deploying agentic systems and LLMs with tool-use and memory capabilities.
