About the role

SDS Fulfillment team builds systems that automate and optimize Apple's order fulfillment and supply chain operations to improve customer experience and drive cost, labor, and carbon savings. As a Software Engineer on the SDS team, you will collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers and other Software Engineers to design and implement systems and tools that impact customers and company revenue, focusing on production software for optimization, durability, reliability, and performance under peak loads.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing production software for optimizing & automating business processes
  • Responsible for system architecture design with a focus on durability, reliability, concurrency, and performance under peak loads, such as product launches
  • Working with external infrastructure teams to drive the development of infrastructure needs
  • Innovating by recognizing opportunities for automation and tools improvements
  • Responsible for developing and implementing process improvements to bring efficiency and stability to fulfillment & supply chain processes
  • Lead the team to increase the level of maturity and skill in analytical software development
  • Responsible for release engineering, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, safe rollouts with feature flags, database schema migrations, and observability tooling

Qualifications

  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience
  • Mastery of one of Python, Java, Scala, C++ or equivalent language
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering/data science
  • Experience building data science or data analysis tools on Hadoop/cloud based systems
  • Some experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platform deployment
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and durable workflow orchestration frameworks (like Temporal) to coordinate complex, long-running processes
  • Experience with Relational databases and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query performance and migrations
  • Demonstrated understanding of the full software development lifecycle: design, testing, CI/CD, release, monitoring and production support
  • Experience designing, building and scaling high-throughput distributed systems in production
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Solid grasp of computer science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms
  • Solid ability to evaluate and apply new technologies in a short time
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented
