About the role

Intern role within Apple's Wireless Technologies and Ecosystems team focusing on intelligent traffic classification and cellular optimization using AI/ML to enhance QoS/QoE in wireless systems.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and prototype intelligent traffic classification and cellular optimization algorithms.
  • Leverage multi-layer telemetry to make cellular protocol stacks application-aware and dynamically optimize communication performance for diverse user scenarios.
  • Analyze wireless network and protocol telemetry to extract meaningful application traffic characteristics and performance indicators.
  • Design, train, and evaluate lightweight AI/ML models for real-time application and traffic pattern classification.
  • Explore and prototype cross-layer optimization strategies to enhance user experiences (e.g., streaming, low-latency interactive applications).
  • Build simulation or on-device evaluation pipelines to benchmark QoS/QoE metrics (throughput, latency, stability).
  • Collaborate with multi-functional wireless engineering teams to review designs, validate results, and present technical findings.

Qualifications

  • Student pursuing Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Engineering, or related fields.
  • Available for a full-time internship for at least 6 months based in Beijing.
  • Foundational knowledge of wireless communications or cellular network protocol stacks (LTE/5G NR).
  • Solid understanding of core machine learning/deep learning algorithms and experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in Chinese and English.
