About the role

Laser Engineering Team in Camera Semiconductor Devices (CSD) develops core laser technologies used in Face ID and LIDAR scanners. The role leads laser component development, transforming laser designs into products suitable for high-volume production, and collaborates across internal R&D and external vendors to define specs, improve yield, and drive technology roadmaps.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with internal R&D teams to design next-gen laser components and define Engineering Requirement Specs (ERS). Establish the spec correlation between laser component level and module/system level
  • Drive and work closely with laser component vendors to design robust process integration flow and develop the key process steps for next-generation laser products
  • Drive and work closely with laser component vendors to improve the device performance and yield during engineering development phase
  • Lead the efforts in solving reliability and performance issues related to laser components observed on module/system level during engineering development phase by working closely with internal and external teams
  • Review the laser device yield and performance data provided by vendors and provide approvals for engineering sample shipments
  • Provide regular update to internal x-functional team about performance, yield and MP readiness laser component during development phase
  • Drive laser vendors to develop key process technologies that are beneficial to Apple internal laser device technology roadmap
  • Explore and develop new laser device technologies in Apple technology roadmap by working with internal laser product definition team and external vendors
  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline
  • Experience in epitaxy (EPI) processes
  • Experience working on several projects transferred from engineering development phase to high-volume production.

Qualifications

  • MS/PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • 3+ years of industry experience on device design, fab process, or process integration experience for III-V optoelectronics devices such as VCSEL, LEDs, edge-emitting lasers, photonic-crystal surface emitting lasers (PCSEL).
  • Epitaxy (Epi) growth background on III-V optoelectronics devices is a strong plus.
  • Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong product engineering experience such as data analysis (JMP) and writing scripts for data inquiry is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong team spirit.
  • Ability to work closely with others in a very cross-functional team environment.
