About the role

Engineer role focused on building and adapting Siri for Dutch users (nl_NL and nl_BE) by applying ML/NLP, LLMs, and scalable software. Acts as technical anchor for the Dutch market, leading large-scale ML/GenAI work streams and collaborating across Apple to deliver culturally native experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead work streams to design and implement large-scale ML and GenAI solutions for Dutch users (nl_NL and nl_BE).
  • Apply advanced ML, NLP, and data-driven methods to production systems.
  • Engineer scalable software to deliver personalized, culturally relevant experiences for Siri.
  • Collaborate with partner teams across Apple to account for international market nuances.
  • Leverage LLMs, agentic approaches, data generation methods, and retrieval-augmented generation to build end-to-end systems.
  • Formulate research problems, design experiments, implement solutions, and communicate results.
  • Maintain and contribute to large production code bases with emphasis on testing and maintainability.

Qualifications

  • Professional-level fluency in Dutch with deep cultural understanding of the Netherlands or Belgium.
  • Experience applying ML and NLP techniques to deliver products; solid understanding of ML concepts.
  • Strong software design and programming skills across multiple paradigms; experience with large production code bases.
  • Experience working with data at scale: building/curating datasets, analyzing results, data-driven decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with large language models: fine-tuning, prompt/context engineering, evaluation, inference optimization; knowledge of agentic systems, tool calling, or retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Experience with speech technologies (ASR, TTS, or pronunciation modeling).
  • Experience adapting models across languages and markets (multilingual, cross-lingual modeling, transfer learning, low-resource settings).
  • Ability to formulate research problems, design, experiment, implement and communicate solutions.
  • Product-focused with emphasis on end-user experience.
  • Experience writing software in Python, Swift, Objective-C, C++ or C; Apple platform experience preferred.
  • M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
