About the role

Senior-level Data Platform Engineer responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining data platform software primarily in Java and Python, contributing across full lifecycle from planning to deployment, with emphasis on high-scale, high-performance, secure cloud-based distributed systems and collaboration with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, document, improve, and maintain code (primarily Java and Python) to build world class Data platforms
  • Participate in all project phases from planning to design to implementation and future iterations
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Project & Product Managers, Product Designers, internal and external partners, and Apple leadership
  • Work on systems and apps used by Apple customers and employees (data centers, AI/ML and data processing systems)
  • Contribute to engineering excellence, on-time delivery, and high-quality solutions
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders

Qualifications

  • 5 years proven experience developing software in a professional capacity
  • 5 years proven experience implementing and shipping high-scale, high-performance, highly available, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-based distributed systems (API implementation: REST, RPC, GraphQL, etc.)
  • 5 years in building large scale distributed systems in Java/Python or similar languages
  • Proficient in SQL
  • 5 years conducting performance analysis and troubleshooting large scale distributed systems
  • 5 years proven experience with Java or Python, including concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization techniques
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience
  • Proficiency in data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns (GoF) with focus on testable, maintainable backend code
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and deploying containerized applications on cloud-based Kubernetes (AWS EKS, GCP GKE, Azure AKS, etc.)
  • Experience working with Gen AI - building MCP server, Skills, CodAct, ReAct approaches
  • Experience with distributed orchestration & computing systems (e.g. Airflow, Spark, Flink)
  • Knowledge of networking concepts & protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, CDN, edge computing, load balancing, OSI model)
