About the role
Design Engineer position at Bolto focused on product design, frontend implementation, and shaping user experiences for AI-native payroll, HR, and recruiting workflows. Ownership from sketch to production, plus contribution to go-to-market design and design system.
Responsibilities
- Design and build interfaces for recruiting, payroll, and HR workflows, including navigation, information hierarchy, forms, tables, and various UI states
- Create working prototypes to test flows and explore alternatives, refining interactions, responsiveness, and visuals
- Contribute to and improve the design system with reusable components and documentation, collaborating with engineering
- Design website and go-to-market assets including landing pages and interactive experiences, extending brand visuals across materials
- Own product flows or substantial interface improvements from problem definition through implementation (within a 90-day plan)
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and engineers to deliver polished interfaces and meaningful user experiences
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience spanning product design and frontend development
- Strong visual and interaction design skills (typography, layout, hierarchy, responsive design)
- Fluency in Figma; hands-on experience building interfaces with HTML, CSS, and React
- Ability to contribute production frontend code and work with engineers on implementation
- Experience making complex workflows understandable; familiarity with financial/business/data-heavy interfaces is a plus
- Attention to accessibility and edge cases; detail-oriented to ensure production-quality work
- Resourcefulness and ownership; ability to navigate problems, explain decisions, incorporate feedback, and ship
