About the role

Engineer role embedded with the kernels team to build agentic tools and operating systems to accelerate production of frontier tokens. Collaborate with founders; end-to-end ownership of high-leverage bottlenecks and internal tooling in an on-site San Jose environment.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with the kernels team to identify high-leverage bottlenecks and own them from idea to day-to-day tools used by engineers
  • Build and deploy LLM agents integrated into engineering workflows via tool-calling and MCP
  • Ship full-stack internal products from zero to one, including interfaces, data pipelines, and infrastructure for Etched
  • Measure effectiveness by designing evals and tracking adoption to prioritize impactful tools
  • Take on special projects with the founders to surface company-wide problems and hit critical milestones

Qualifications

  • 1-5+ years of experience building and shipping software end to end, ideally at a fast-moving startup
  • Strong full-stack skills; focus on working software that ships rather than writing every line yourself
  • Experience building LLM agents or AI tooling used by real users (context engineering, tool integration, evals, failure analysis)
  • Ability to use AI to ramp quickly on unfamiliar domains; experience with agentic coding tools and frontier models
  • Product sense, design taste, attention to detail, and strong initiative to own problems end to end
