About the role

Staff Software Engineer role within Airbnb's Hosting Services engineering team in London. Hands-on technical leader responsible for defining technical foundations, architecture and product delivery for host-focused services, partnerships and third-party integrations, collaborating with global teams to accelerate innovation and scale engineering impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and development of new customer-facing products, services and third-party integrations
  • Shape technical strategy and architecture for major systems and services
  • Accelerate engineering innovation with reusable patterns, tooling and AI-enabled development opportunities
  • Own the full product lifecycle from discovery through launch and iteration
  • Lead across the technology stack (backend, APIs, frontend, mobile, distributed architecture) and remain hands-on as needed
  • Drive technical excellence and guide engineers in architectural decisions, trade-offs and reliability
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders to align technical decisions with product and commercial goals
  • Challenge existing approaches to build better products and expand engineering impact

Qualifications

  • 9+ years of software engineering experience in fast-paced, product-led environments
  • Strong backend engineering expertise with large-scale, distributed systems
  • Proven experience building customer-facing products from zero to one
  • End-to-end product ownership with iteration based on feedback
  • Broad full-stack capability across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs and system architecture
  • Strong architectural design skills for high-scale distributed services, APIs and data pipelines
  • Sound technical judgment balancing delivery speed, experimentation, scalability and long-term quality
  • Product-first engineering mindset
