About the role

Apple’s Services Engineering organization (ASE) Coordination SRE team builds and operates software to manage Apache Zookeeper and ETCD, focusing on safe, reliable, scalable, and fast coordination/state management for Apple’s internet services. The role involves contributing across Deployment Infrastructure, monitoring/alerting, automation, and upstream patches to databases, with emphasis on cross‑functional collaboration and serving internal platform customers at massive data-center scale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and contribute to software for managing Apache Zookeeper and ETCD.
  • Contribute to Coordination Systems deployment infrastructure (maintenance automation, monitoring/alerting tooling/dashboards, deployment architecture).
  • Contribute back to upstream patches to the database focusing on stability, performance, and scaling.
  • Engage with internal platform customers with excellent communication and customer focus.
  • Collaborate with engineers across Apple to define metrics, targets, quality guardrails, and ship products/services.
  • Work on large cross-organizational projects and learn/new technologies to evolve the team and organization.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science / related fields or equivalent work experience.
  • Understanding of core SRE concepts (Monitoring, Alerting, Incident management).
  • Proficiency in Java, Go (golang), or Python.
  • Understanding of database concepts (consistency models, isolation levels, crash and recovery semantics).
  • Performance engineering (design concepts, profile-guided optimization).
  • Operating systems concepts (process scheduling, disk and network I/O, performance).
  • Datacenter architecture (networking topologies, host placement strategies, failure modes); design of multi-datacenter systems; failure domains; wide-area networking.
  • Experience developing critical internet services and/or platform infrastructure.
