About the role

Lead a team that develops new plastic materials and processes to meet structural and aesthetic requirements across Apple product designs. Manage engineers, collaborate with suppliers and internal design groups, and drive environmental goals and project delivery within the Polymers Materials team of Materials Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage engineers responsible for plastics development, formulation, compounding, or manufacturing
  • Identify, develop, and implement new plastics materials used across Apple hardware products
  • Foster collaborative relationships with Apple suppliers to influence product development
  • Collaborate with product design and industrial design groups on material selection, design feasibility and aesthetics of new plastic part designs
  • Help deliver Apple’s materials environmental goals and reduce the carbon footprint of plastics
  • Manage multiple projects in parallel with a high level of autonomy and effective communication

Qualifications

  • BS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Organic Chemistry and 10+ years in plastics industry
  • Strong materials fundamentals in plastic material properties, part design and fabrication
  • Experience managing engineering teams who are responsible for plastics development, formulation, compounding, or manufacturing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use statistical tools and techniques
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to adapt communication for executives vs engineers; translates direction to team
  • MS/PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Organic Chemistry
  • Experience with plastics manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, 3D printing, compression molding)
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage large quantities of details; solution-driven mindset to drive projects to completion
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to drive cross-functional teams toward product and material goals
