About the role

SDET in Sales Engineering at Apple, responsible for defining and executing the quality strategy for Storefront and related systems (e.g., DCOTA), ensuring platform testability, building and guiding testing practices, and collaborating with PMs, engineers, and business teams to shift quality left and maintain high confidence in releases.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Quality Architecture & Strategy: Define, implement, and evolve the comprehensive quality roadmap for Storefront across APIs, web, and native iOS platforms.
  • Establish Quality Gates & Standards: Design objective quality criteria, release sign-offs, and automated gates in the deployment pipeline to balance engineering velocity with production stability.
  • Advocate for Quality Culture: Champion best practices across the engineering lifecycle: influencing architectural decisions for testability, shifting validation left, and guiding developers on effective testing patterns.
  • Optimise Test Ecosystems: Architect and maintain clean, reliable test frameworks; decide what to automate, what to validate through contract/integration testing, and how to minimise long-term maintenance costs.
  • Evaluate System Risk: Lead risk assessment for complex cross-functional initiatives, identifying failure modes and edge cases before code is written.
  • Modernise Quality Engineering: Pioneer new methodologies, including leveraging AI/LLM tooling and intelligent test analysis, to accelerate validation, surface defect patterns, and improve overall coverage.

Qualifications

  • Proven software engineering fundamentals with strong proficiency in at least one modern general-purpose programming language.
  • Demonstrated track record of designing and executing quality strategies for multi-tier, distributed platforms (APIs, web, mobile).
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, system dependencies, and test pyramid trade-offs (cost vs. speed vs. confidence).
  • Experience defining quality gates, release criteria, and integrating automated validation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong technical communication and influencing skills—ability to advocate for quality decisions with development, product, and leadership partners.
  • Practical experience improving quality culture across an engineering team
  • Experience designing performance, load, or resilience testing strategies
  • Experience using AI developer tools to assist with test generation or workflow efficiency
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent practical engineering experience
