About the role

CPU Platform Architecture team focused on pushing single-threaded and multi-threaded CPU performance for Apple products. The role involves defining and optimizing CPU and cache micro-architecture, analyzing workloads, identifying bottlenecks, and collaborating with CPU/SoC designers to evaluate and seed new ideas through modeling and correlation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify performance bottlenecks in memory subsystem and CPU/micro-architecture
  • Collaborate with CPU and SoC designers to assess feasibility of ideas through modeling and RTL
  • Refine ideas and model correlation; seed new optimization ideas
  • Analyze single-threaded and multi-threaded workloads across current and new product categories
  • Maintain and improve the simulation environment to enable data-driven decisions
  • Boost productivity of the CPU performance team through collaboration and tooling improvements

Qualifications

  • BS degree
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • MS or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience in CPU and SOC architecture and micro-architecture
  • Experience with performance simulation environments
  • Object-oriented programming in C/C++
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Perl or Python
  • Knowledge of memory latency tolerance techniques or memory subsystem aspects (pre-fetching, caching policies)
  • Understanding of common data structures and algorithms
  • Familiarity with SIMD, vector, or accelerator architectures
  • Familiarity with MP performance
  • Comfortable in uncertain environments and able to navigate ambiguities
  • Experience in a research-driven environment
