About the role

Senior/Lead Backend Engineer for Apple’s Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) organization, building high-throughput, auditable, and immutable financial systems that move, route, and settle money across a global ecosystem. Responsible for designing mission-critical distributed services across the transaction lifecycle with emphasis on data integrity, auditability, and domain-driven architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate high-throughput distributed services across the transaction lifecycle—ingestion, validation, matching, sub-ledger posting, settlement, and reconciliation.
  • Own data integrity end-to-end: double-entry ledger mechanics, immutable event streams, deterministic idempotency, and audit trails for SOX compliance.
  • Model canonical financial data schemas and externalize accounting/matching rules into versioned configurations to evolve business logic without code deployments.
  • Lead architecture RFCs for cross-team initiatives, raise engineering standards through code review and contract testing, and mentor engineers across the team.

Qualifications

  • 6 years experience java ecosystem building production applications with the Spring ecosystem (e.g. Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data, Spring Cloud, etc.), including mastery in dependency injection, auto-configuration, reactive programming with WebFlux, and designing microservices using Spring-based patterns.
  • 6 years experience designing, implementing, and shipping high-scale, high-performance, highly available, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-based distributed systems.
  • 6 years experience in API design and implementation, including RESTful APIs, gRPC, GraphQL, contract-first design (OpenAPI/Swagger, Protobuf), API versioning, gateway patterns, rate limiting, and backward-compatible evolution.
  • 6 years experience with message-driven and event-driven architectures, including Kafka/RabbitMQ/ActiveMQ, event sourcing, CQRS, and reliable asynchronous communication.
  • 6 years experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB), including schema design, query optimization, performance tuning, and understanding of distributed transactions.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Track record leading software projects spanning multiple distributed teams as a tech lead, mentoring senior engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Codex) to accelerate development, improve code quality, and streamline debugging/testing.
  • Experience with search/indexing technologies (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr) including architecture design, index optimization, query tuning, and large-scale full-text search.
  • Expert-level understanding of advanced JVM internals (garbage collection, memory allocation, JIT, JNI).
