About the role

Architect and drive end-to-end AI and data governance for Apple’s ML lifecycle platform, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations across data flow, model provenance, access controls, and auditability from data ingestion to model deployment and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Architect end-to-end AI & Data governance frameworks — design structures, policies, and technical controls for data classification, data lineage, model provenance, access management, and audit trails across the ML lifecycle.
  • Own the compliance architecture — translate requirements from legal, privacy, and regulatory stakeholders into durable, scalable technical solutions across systems, pipelines, and data assets.
  • Connect compliance, legal, and engineering — serve as the bridge between legal counsel, privacy teams, data engineering, ML infrastructure, and ML researchers.
  • Define data classification at scale — lead strategy and architecture for classifying, cataloging, and governing data assets across diverse use cases.
  • Navigate the regulatory landscape — ensure platform architecture meets data residency, retention, auditability, fairness, and emerging AI-specific regulations.
  • Establish governance as a cross-cutting platform capability — embed governance controls into the platform so compliance is the path of least resistance for researchers and engineers.
  • Drive policy into practice — develop standards, playbooks, and architectural patterns for consistent governance across Apple Services.
  • Advise senior stakeholders — synthesize governance risk, compliance gaps, and architectural trade-offs for technical and executive audiences.

Qualifications

  • Deep experience in data governance, ML governance, or compliance architecture within complex, large-scale technical environments.
  • Deep understanding of ML workflows, data engineering, and ML infrastructure; able to provide design feedback.
  • Proven track record of working cross-functionally with legal, privacy, compliance, and engineering teams to implement governance solutions.
  • Ability to refine legal and regulatory requirements into technical architecture and engineering deliverables.
  • Fluent in both legal and engineering languages; translate prescriptive compliance obligations into precise technical requirements.
  • Experience engaging upstream with legal and policy stakeholders to shape policy guidance.
  • Exceptional ability to operate in ambiguity and drive clarity across organizations with different vocabularies.
