About the role

Acoustics specialist within Fluidstack's Civil, Structural and Architectural Team responsible for environmental and occupational noise studies, modeling, and mitigation planning for gigawatt-scale data center and power generation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Own the acoustic studies. Run environmental and occupational noise studies and calculations for the template data center and power generation designs, and keep them current as the templates change.
  • Model the sites. Build and maintain outdoor sound propagation models for each template and adapt them to candidate sites, terrain, and local ordinances.
  • Recommend the mitigations. Specify barriers, silencers, acoustic enclosures, louvers, and equipment selections that bring sites within limits, with the cost and schedule case for each.
  • Work across engineering. Bring noise requirements into the mechanical, electrical, power generation, and architectural designs early, and review their equipment selections and layouts for acoustic impact.
  • Protect the workforce. Set occupational noise exposure limits for plant and yard work areas, define hearing conservation zones, and verify them at commissioning.
  • Support permitting. Produce the noise assessments, reports, and measurements that permitting and community engagement need, and answer the questions that come back.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of acoustics or noise control engineering on industrial, power generation, or mission-critical facilities, with at least one project taken from study through permit and commissioning measurement.
  • Fluency in an outdoor sound propagation tool such as CadnaA or SoundPLAN and in the ISO 9613-2 method behind it.
  • Hands-on with environmental noise measurement, sound power and sound pressure data from equipment vendors, and octave-band calculations.
  • Working knowledge of occupational noise standards such as OSHA 1910.95 and the local noise ordinances that govern industrial sites.
  • Experience specifying barriers, silencers, and acoustic enclosures and seeing them built and measured.
  • Ability to explain acoustic trade-offs to mechanical and electrical engineers and enforce design limits during reviews.
  • Bonus: INCE Board Certification or Professional Engineer license; data center or gas turbine plant noise experience; building acoustics or vibration isolation background; mechanical engineering or procurement experience.
