About the role

Lead a small ML/orchestrate a global team, build and deploy ML models to accelerate Instawork’s two-sided marketplace and product roadmap. Hands-on leadership role focusing on ML strategy, data-driven culture, and scalable data/ML infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of ML engineers and eventually grow a global team over the coming months and years
  • Spend 70% of your time hands-on (building/integrating new models) and 30% of your time defining our ML strategy and managing the team
  • Optimize the team for speed and impact over patience and precision
  • Own a portfolio of proprietary and third party platforms needed for day-to-day execution like MLOps, experimentation systems, and data transformation pipelines (DBT)
  • Deliver best-in-class technical approach and problem analysis documents
  • Impact key company objectives by working closely with Product to refine our roadmap
  • Build/maintain reports, dashboards, and metrics to monitor the performance of our products
  • Act as a data evangelist to create a data-driven culture across the company and provide mentorship/feedback to analysts and other data-minded stakeholders

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Math, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
  • Advanced degrees preferred but not required (e.g. PhD or Masters)
  • 12-15+ years experience in quantitative analysis, modeling and production ML
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with startup and large-scale experience
  • Advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, distributions, statistical tests)
  • Deep understanding of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision trees, neural networks)
  • Strong communication and executive presence
  • Past experience as technical lead or manager of small-to-medium teams
  • Expert Python & SQL
  • Working knowledge of web/mobile architectures, data pipelines, CI/CD
  • Strong understanding of DBT or similar data transformation methodologies
  • Understanding of two-sided marketplaces and/or complex business models with product acumen
  • Experience with BI tools (Mode, Tableau, Looker)
